The young goalkeeper of Roma was given an opportunity in the Europa League over the experienced Portuguese Rui Patricio and made the most of it.
Finally! The experienced Portuguese coaching wizard, Jose Mourinho, decided to give a chance to the young Serbian goalkeeper Mile Svilar (24) in the starting 11! And he didn't make a mistake!
The former goalkeeper of Anderlecht, Benfica, and occasional Serbian national team player, took full advantage of the opportunity given over the experienced Portuguese Rui Patricio against Sheriff. He was excellent, and thanks to a goal by Romelu Lukaku in the 65th minute of the match in Tiraspol in the 1st round of the Europa League, Roma secured their first three points.
What certainly can delight the Serbian national team coach Dragan Stojković is the fact that among the contenders for the main goalkeeper position for the Eagles, there are three goalkeepers from Serie A! Unchallenged is Vanja Milinković Savić (26), Torino's goalkeeper who has been a regular for two seasons.
When Cagliari returned to the elite, Boris Radunović (28) took his place between the posts, making Mile Svilar the third goalkeeper from the Serbian team camp building his career in Italy.
In the summer of 2022, Jose Mourinho insisted that Mile Svilar come to Roma from Benfica, but so far in his career, he hasn't been given many opportunities. He has only played three matches in the "wolves" jersey.
The match against Sheriff could be a turning point. Rui Patricio is 36 years old, nearing the end of his career, and Roma needs a young goalkeeper. That's precisely Mile Svilar!
