Joaquín Sánchez, former Real Betis captain, expresses his aspiration to become the club's president and reflects on his emotional farewell match.
Joaquín Sánchez was the special guest on Antena 3's "El Hormiguero" show this Thursday, where he introduced the new season of "El Novato", hosted by the former Real Betis captain. Currently, Joaquín remains connected to the club, serving as a representative and a link to the main squad. Additionally, he is one of the major individual shareholders of the club.
The aspiration of becoming the president of Real Betis has been on Joaquín's mind for a while. "I've always said it would be an incredible role, but I'm also aware of the immense responsibility that comes with being Betis' president. I must also acknowledge that our current president, Ángel Haro, is the best fit for Real Betis Balompié at the moment. But if the opportunity arises for me in the future? I'd consider it," Joaquín shared.
Reflecting on his tribute match at Benito Villamarín last June, which marked the end of LaLiga, and the overwhelming support from fans, Joaquín expressed:
"It's hard to put into words the emotions I felt. I anticipated a memorable moment with Betis fans by my side, but I couldn't have imagined the scale of such a farewell. When I reached out to my teammates, they immediately said, 'count me in'. I'm forever grateful to them.
"It's a feeling of deep appreciation. I've had the privilege of pursuing my passion for football, and to conclude with such admiration and affection from the fans is the greatest reward one can receive."
