In a thrilling turn of events in the Italian Serie A, Salernitana, bolstered by the return of Nigerian striker Charles Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi, clinched their first victory of the season, defeating Lazio 2-1.
Charles Ikwuemesi, returning from an injury, played a pivotal role in Salernitana's surprising victory. The former Celje player, now a regular for the Italian top-flight club, was instrumental throughout the match, contributing significantly to the team's attacking dynamics. His presence on the field for the full 90 minutes was a testament to his growing importance in Filippo Inzaghi's squad.
The match saw Salernitana overturn a deficit against the visitors from Rome. Lazio initially took the lead with a penalty successfully converted by veteran Ciro Immobile just before the end of the first half. However, the game's momentum shifted in the second half in favor of the home team. Grigoris Kastanos of Cyprus equalized in the 55th minute, followed by a goal from veteran winger Antonio Candreva, sealing the win for Salernitana.
Despite the victory, Salernitana remains at the bottom of the Serie A table but is now closer to escaping the relegation zone. The team looks forward to upcoming matches against Fiorentina, Bologna, and Atalanta. Ikwuemesi, with four goals and two assists in 14 appearances, totaling 717 minutes of playtime in Italian football, will be crucial for Salernitana's survival bid in Serie A.
