A somewhat comical news story is emerging from Turkey regarding a French midfielder who joined Galatasaray this summer.
He lost his place in the squad due to ordering a hamburger at the hotel after a Champions League match.
Tanguy Ndombele was a record-breaking purchase for Tottenham Hotspur in 2019. However, after moving from the French club Lyon, where he was one of Ligue 1's standout players, he struggled to shine in London.
This led to loan stints back at Lyon and then Napoli. This year, the market showed minimal interest in him. Tottenham's summer appointment, coach Postecoglou, quickly deemed Ndombele surplus to requirements.
Just before the start of the English league season, Postecoglou stated that Ndombele wasn't in ideal physical condition, which would clash with the football style the beloved Australian manager wanted to implement.
As a result, the 26-year-old midfielder was loaned out to Galatasaray but arrived 7 kilograms overweight. The club tried to assist him, but Ndombele had been sneaking in treats.
He maintained a strict diet when at the club or training sessions. However, he frequently indulged in tasty temptations elsewhere, causing his weight not to drop as anticipated. The last straw was an incident after Galatasaray's Champions League loss to Bayern Munich, where Ndombele treated himself to a juicy hamburger delivered straight to his hotel room.
The coach caught wind of this and was furious with Ndombele. A heated argument ensued, reportedly lasting for hours, culminating in the decision that the former French international would miss upcoming matches.
He needs to buckle down, work hard, and get his weight under control. This appears to be his last chance, as he's been grappling with these issues for years, causing his once bright star to considerably fade.
