The 1st round group stage match of the Conference League between Genk and Fiorentina was marked by significant fan disturbances on the streets of this Belgian city two hours before the match started.
According to local media, Genk fans attacked a bus carrying Italian fans, who then got out and confronted them. The outcome, as stated by Genk's spokesperson, was the arrest of 100 Italian fans.
"Close to a hundred Italian fans have been arrested and will consequently miss the match," said Iben Sempels, Genk's spokesperson.
A video posted on social media shows the brawl on the streets of the Belgian city, involving several hundred fans. Fortunately, the police responded relatively quickly, separating the fan groups and preventing a larger conflict.
Regarding the match itself, Genk and Fiorentina played a highly efficient game, which ended in a 2:2 draw without a winner.
