Joakim Maehle criticizes his former Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini for a dictatorial and fear-based management style.
Speaking from Denmark's training camp in Helsingør, Joakim Maehle discussed his recent past at Atalanta, specifically addressing his experiences with Gian Piero Gasperini.
"His management style could be described as dictatorial, based on fear. I wasn't accustomed to all of this," revealed the former Nerazzurri defender.
Directly from Denmark's training camp, Joakim Maehle discussed his relationship with Gian Piero Gasperini, his former coach at Atalanta.
"If we had a double training session, in the afternoon, he would say that we had to stay overnight at the training center because he thought we should. It's a management style different from what I was used to; you could call it fear-based management. At Atalanta, the coach decided everything. There was no freedom, and it was mentally tough," Maehle asserts.
Now at Wolfsburg, the defender believes he is much more at ease than in the past:
"I needed a new challenge in my career. In Bergamo, I was one of many, whereas at Wolfsburg, I feel like a part of the project, and there's more humor in the dressing room."
