Unai Emery is impressed by Jhon Duran's rapid progress but emphasizes the need for patience with the young forward, especially after his remarkable equalizer in the 3-1 victory against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Duran's powerful volley in the 87th minute set the stage for Villa's dramatic win, marking their 10th straight home victory across all contests. The 19-year-old has found the net in every home game this season but hasn't started a Premier League match since his £15.4 million transfer from Chicago Fire earlier this year.
Emery sees immense potential in Duran and doesn't dismiss the idea of pairing him with Ollie Watkins in the starting lineup.
However, he's mindful of Duran's age and wants to avoid undue pressure. Emery commented, "Jhon is young and requires guidance. We need to strike a balance between pushing him and supporting him."
He added that while Duran's recent performances have been promising, it's essential to focus on his inherent talent and integrate him effectively into the team's structure.
Despite Watkins not scoring this season, he played a crucial role in the recent win, earning a penalty that Douglas Luiz converted. When questioned about the possibility of Duran and Watkins teaming up more frequently, Emery responded positively, noting their complementary skills.
He emphasized Duran's need for more game time to gain experience and confidence, adding, "His recent goals show his quick adaptation, but his innate talent and potential are what truly stand out."
